Thermal Energy Networks for Vermont

A series of lunchtime webinars introducing the opportunities and benefits of adding geothermal and other kinds of Thermal Energy Networks to our clean energy solutions.

Geothermal or other kinds of Thermal Energy Networks are a known, demonstrated solution we can bring to our town centers and neighborhoods.

One of the cleanest, most efficient, safest, and healthiest ways to heat and cool buildings is on the table in Vermont:

Now Vermont’s climate and clean energy coalitions are inviting leaders from the rapidly growing world of thermal energy exchange to share the potential of these systems for our communities and our state goals.

Wednesday, March 1

12pm EST • Zoom
Hosted by VECAN

Featuring:

Beginning with the basics and benefits of networked thermal systems, this webinar opens up the possibilities for harnessing and exchanging thermal energy. Two companies with innovative, proven technologies explain how they maximize heating and cooling: Celsius Energy uses angled drilling to install a geothermal system within the space of just two parking spaces. SHARC Energy captures heating from the stream of warm water we send down the drain every day. The possibilities are exciting and prompt the question: What can work here in Vermont?

Monday, March 20

12pm EST • Zoom
Hosted by Energy Action Network

An interview with Jay Egg, President of EggGeo

How can Thermal Energy Networks help Vermont achieve our climate goals? What policies and programs are needed to make them a viable, equitable solution in our communities?

Jay Egg—instrumental in the passage of New York’s Utility Thermal Energy Network and Jobs Act—joins us to talk about the surprising alliance of utilities, unions, and climate advocates that helped that pioneering law pass unanimously in the New York Senate and what we can learn from what’s happening now in neighboring states and beyond.

In conversation with Jay and including your questions, we’ll talk about what we can do in Vermont to apply the potential of thermal energy exchange toward reducing emissions and supporting a just energy transition.

Tuesday, April 4

12pm EST • Zoom
Hosted by Renewable Energy Vermont

Featuring:

  • Zeyneb Magavi, Co-Executive Director of HEET, a nonprofit climate solution incubator

  • Ryan Dougherty, President of GEO (Geothermal Exchange Organization), a non-profit trade association

  • Jeff Hammond, President of IGSHPA, the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association

As we strive for 100% clean energy in Vermont, we need a holistic vision that includes multiple, synergistic technologies. Geothermal and other kinds of Thermal Energy Networks can be one part of the solution. Known as electrification’s best friend, these systems help to balance electric loads and shave peaks year-round. Thermal Energy Networks are a great complement to other renewable resources and close to net zero when paired with solar.

Join us to learn more about Thermal Energy Networks as an electrification strategy and get a preview of a new case study on Colorado Mesa University's 12-year-old system. Speakers will identify key opportunities, IRA incentives, and the kinds of businesses needed to help Vermont take advantage of the many benefits of Thermal Energy Networks.
